Hornets teams add two wins

Both Lake basketball teams enjoyed a good week on the hardwoods with each winning two out of three games.

The Lady Hornets took a pair of blowout wins, beating Scott Central 60-27 and Pisgah 61-28 while falling 60-49 to Leake Central.

Jones, Posey ink with 4-year colleges

Two former Union High School players are headed to play at four-year universities.

Former players Jamarcus Jones and Peyton Posey each signed to play at four-year schools last week after playing for two years in the Mississippi junior college system.

Newton sweeps Nanih Waiya, Leake Central

After slow starts to the season, the Newton basketball teams are starting to warm up as division play begins.

The Newton girls won two games last week, beating Nanih Waiya 52-26 in a Division 5-2A contest and then beat Class 4A Leake Central 60-43 on Thursday.

Palm’s big games power Lake

The Lake Lady Hornets picked up two more wins last week in contrasting fashion.

Lake blew out Sebastopol 63-16 on Tuesday before needing overtime to beat Kemper County 53-50 on Friday.

The Lady boys lost both games last week, falling 48-45 to Sebastopol and 57-39 to Kemper County.
