The Newton County Lady Cougars pounded two South 4A opponents last week as they advanced to the Class 4A quarterfinals.

The Lady Cougars beat Raymond 56-28 on Monday and then beat Columbia 50-38 on Friday.

The Newton County boys lost their opening-round game, falling 65-52 to Mendenhall.
