BASKETBALL: Yellowjackets split with Morton, Clarkdale

The Union basketball teams finished out the regular season this past week by splitting a pair of games.

The Union girls lost 66-23 to Morton on Tuesday but then bounced back and beat Clarkdale 57-45 on Friday.

The Union boys also lost to Morton, falling 59-37 but also bounced back and beat Clarkdale 53-42.

Cheerleading: Newton County bound for nationals

The Newton County High School Cheerleaders held a showcase for the home crowd Monday evening, just days before they travel to Orlando, Florida to compete against the best of the best at the High School Cheerleading National Championship on Feb. 10-12.

BASKETBALL: Lady Generals win district tourney

The Newton County Academy Lady Generals completed their domination of District 2-3A this past week.

After going unbeaten in district play in the regular season, the Lady Generals beat Kemper Academy 51-25 on Thursday and Calhoun Academy 46-31 on Saturday to capture the 2-3A title.

SOCCER: Newton County sees playoff run end

The Newton County soccer teams saw their seasons come to an end last week with a pair of tightly contested games.

The Lady Cougars dropped a 2-1 decision to New Albany while the Cougars fell 3-2 to Corinth.
