BASKETBALL: Lady Generals finish district play on top

The Newton County Academy girls completed a perfect run through district play last week with a pair of wins.

The Lady Generals improved to 17-3 on the season as they took a pair of double-digit wins last week, beating Calhoun Academy 52-40 and rival Sylva Bay 43-24.

BASKETBALL: Union girls get back on win streak

The Union Lady Yellowjackets picked up three wins this past week, including a pair of division victories.

Union beat Enterprise 57-53 on Tuesday and then took a 43-36 win over Southeast Lauderdale on Friday. The Lady Yellowjackets then beat French Camp 62-35 on Saturday to finish out the week.

The East Central Planning and Development District has been given the green light to resume the Congregate Meals Program in Newton County. But before they can resume the program, they must fill positions at meal sites.

Yellowjackets rally to win two division games

The Union boys picked up three wins this past week, including a pair of Division 5-3A victories.

The Union boys beat Clarkdale 62-41 on Tuesday and took a big 44-41 win over Forest on Friday. Union then beat Raleigh 71-13 on Saturday.
