Basketball: Lake struggles against stiff region competition

The Lake Hornets dropped three contest last week, all in region 5-2A play.

The Lake boys 81-55 to Newton in a makeup game on Monday and then lost 70-49 to Bay Springs on Tuesday. They finished the week out with a 64-46 loss to Clarkdale.

The Newton County girls split a pair of division games last week in 4-4A action.

Newton County finished out the regular season on Tuesday as they hosted Northeast Lauderdale.

Newton County girls 43, West Lauderdale 19

The Lady Cougars dominated the first three periods and cruised to a 24-point win.

BASKETBALL: Lady Jackets clinch regular season title

The Union Lady Yellowjackets have already clinched the regular season region championship and top seed in the region tournament next week, after beating Eupora 66-56 and J.Z. George 66-45.

Union will finish out the regular season with a pair of home games as they host Sebastopol on Tuesday and J.Z. George on Thursday for Senior Night.

BASKETBALL: Bobcat teams get split in region play

The Sebastopol basketball teams split a pair of games last week, taking a pair from Eupora while losing both to Philadelphia.

Sebastopol traveled to JZ George on Monday and Union on Tuesday. They will finish the season on the road at Eupora Thursday. The division 4-2A tournament begins the next week at Union.
