Baseball: Hornets rally from Taylorsville loss with three dominant victories

The Lake Hornets won three out of four games this past week.

After a 6-2 loss to Taylorsville on Thursday, Lake swept Newton in a doubleheader on Friday, beating the Tigers 15-0 and 12-0. Lake then finished the week with a 13-2 win over Sebastopol on Saturday.

softball: Lady Cougars continue to rack up big wins

The Newton County Lady Cougars stayed unbeaten in Division 5-4A play and added three more wins to their total last week.

County swept Northeast Jones in a pair of games, winning 8-2 on Tuesday and 6-1 on Thursday. They finished the week with a 12-1 win over Southeast Lauderdale on Friday.

BASEBALL: NCA drops two important games in district

The Newton County Academy baseball team lost a pair of district games last week.

The Generals lost 9-7 to Calhoun Academy on Tuesday and 14-4 to Kemper on Friday.

NCA is scheduled to return to play on Monday as they host Park Place. They will then play at Calhoun Academy on Tuesday and at Sylva Bay on Friday.

Softball: Lady ‘Cats continue to stay hot

It was a busy week for the Sebastopol Lady Bobcats, winning four out of five games.

The Lady Bobcats opened with a 15-0 win over French Camp and then swept a doubleheader from Leake County, winning 20-0 and 19-0. After a 4-0 loss to Nanih Waiya on Thursday, they beat Philadelphia 21-0 on Friday.
