Newton to host holiday showcase Monday-Tuesday

Newton boys basketball coach Crandal Porter has always loved to host the Newton High School Holiday Shootout.

In all, 12 different schools will come to Newton on Monday and Tuesday. Porter said he thinks he has state championship contenders scattered over both days.

Tigers add wins before holidays

The Newton Tigers hit the road this past week and picked up two big wins against much larger schools.

The Tigers beat Brookhaven 56-47 on Wednesday and then beat McComb 57-54 at the South Pike Tournament.

The Lady Tigers split a pair of games as they beat Terry 43-40 and lost to McComb 50-44.
