The Newton basketball teams stepped up in class last week.

The Tigers beat Laurel 68-53 before losing 57-54 to Quitman and 72-62 to Northwest Rankin.

The Lady Tigers lost 55-45 to Laurel and 65-54 to Quitman.

BASKETBALL: Lady Cougars fall to Lake

Newton County and Lake split a pair of games this past week.

The Lady Hornets took a 44-41 win over the Lady Cougars while the Newton County boys beat Lake 62-55.

Newton County was swept by Neshoba Central as the girls fell 92-25 and the boys lost 60-47.
