SEBASTOPOL — Lake head coach Tate Hanna didn’t think his team did a good job of concentrating on getting better in preparation for the Pelahatchie game.
It appeared like his team got the message, as the Hornets rallied from a tough loss to down Sebastopol 45-7 Friday night on the road.
“Last week, I don’t think we did a good job of focusing on Lake,” Hanna said. “This week we did a much better job of doing that and we played much better.”
The Hornets didn’t take long getting on the board. Mickey Parker connected with Zywon Ledbetter on a 38-yard pass play to set up Ethan Gray’s 4-yard touchdown on the fifth play of the game to give Lake a 6-0 lead.
Then the Hornets went to the air to increase the lead. Parker completed passes of 19 and 9 yards to Dannarious Hughes and Kolin Ramzi before connecting with Ledbetter on a 26-yard strike. The extra point by Parker put Lake up 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The onslaught continued as Hughes caught an interception. Then Gray had five carries on the drive for 61 yards to set up Maquon Hughes for a 6-yard touchdown run. Will Burns added the extra point to put Lake up 20-0.
JD Evans recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to set up Angelo Sowell on a 2-yard touchdown run, giving Lake a 26-0 lead at the half.
Then D’Alex Jennings got in on the action with a 64-yard touchdown run to cap an 85-yard drive.
Hughes then caught another interception. This time, he took it to the house for a 78-yard return.
Cornelius Myers capped the Lake scoring with a 17-yard score early in the fourth quarter.
Sebastopol’s only score came on an 11-yard score by Colby Strickland midway through the fourth quarter.
