Stephens Funeral Home took time on Friday to say thank you to local first responders.
The staff of the Union funeral home grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for all police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel for an appreciation lunch.
George Warner, funeral director with Stephens Funeral Home, said this was the first year that they hosted the event, and they hope to make it an annual occurrence.
“Our first responders do so much for our community,” he said. “We just wanted to give them a chance to come by, have some food and relax for a few minutes.”
While the rain may have kept some from coming due to responding to other emergencies, Warner was pleased with the response that they had, and they want to see it grow in the next few years.
“This is the first time that we did it,” Warner said. “The weather didn’t really cooperate with us today, as several first responders may have had to respond to calls related to the weather, but we were pleased with how it turned out. I think it’s something that we would like to see grow over the next few years.”
Warner said Stephens is making an effort to reconnect with the community through events like this.
“We want to reconnect with the community here in Union,” Warner said. “Stephens Funeral Home has been here in Union for a long time, and we are planning to be here for many years to come.”
