County boys earn two more district wins

The Newton County Cougars got back into the Division 5-4A race with a pair of big wins this past week.

The Cougars beat Northeast Jones 52-49 on Tuesday and then beat Mendenhall 55-50 on Friday.

The Cougars ended the week with a 56-39 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.

Lady Cougars win eighth straight

The Newton County Lady Cougars won their eighth straight game and remained unbeaten in Division 5-4A play with a pair of wins last week.

The Lady Cougars took a 54-28 win over Richland on Tuesday and then beat Quitman 57-42 on Friday to improve to 13-7 on the season and 4-0 in 5-4A play.

Lewis’ hat trick helps seal win over rival

The Newton County boys' soccer team used a dominating offense and smothering defense to take a 7-2 over rival West Lauderdale on Friday and claim the Division 5-4A championship.

Newton County improves to 18-1 on the season with the win and secured the Division 5-4A title with the win.

Cougars unbeaten in district

The Newton County boys' soccer team improved to 17-1 on the season as they took three more wins last week, all in blowout fashion.

The Cougars swept Louisville, winning 7-0 on Monday and 8-1 on Tuesday. The Cougars finished out the week with a 6-0 win over Northeast Lauderdale.
