TENNIS: Cougars win one of three matches

The Newton County tennis team got in plenty of action this week but dropped two out of three matches.

Newton County lost 5-2 to Northwest Rankin on Thursday before traveling to Jones County on Saturday where they split a pair of matches, beating Brookhaven 4-3 and losing to Stone County 4-3.

NCA baseball falls to Leake Academy

The Newton County Academy baseball team got in one game last week, falling 15-5 to Leake Academy on Friday.

Leake outhit NCA 14-6 in the contest. Austin Upton and Lee Hollingsworth were each 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI apiece. Jax Porter and Ryan Moore had NCA’s other hits.

SOFTBALL: Hornets respond from Neshoba loss

The Lake Lady Hornets won two of three games this past week on the softball diamond.

Lake dropped a tight 5-3 decision to 5A power Neshoba Central on Thursday and bounced back and beat Taylorsville 11-0 and Mize 11-6 on Saturday at the Raleigh Tournament.
