The Lake basketball teams split a pair or division 5-2A games this past week.

Lake swept Clarkdale as the Lady Hornets won 61-6 and the Hornets followed with an 80-51 blowout win.

Both Lake teams lost to Newton as the Hornets fell 58-38 and the Lady Hornets lost 39-18.

Basketball: Lady Generals Sweep as Generals Split Games

The Newton County Academy Lady Generals picked up two more wins last week as they improved to 17-2 on the season.

The Lady Generals beat Discovery Christian 53-24 and Laurel Christian 34-25.

The Generals split a pair of games, beating Laurel 70-46 while losing 37-31 to Discovery Christian.

It was a rough week for the Union basketball teams as each squad got swept in division contests.

The Union boys fell 44-41 to J.Z. George and 48-30 to rival Philadelphia.

the Union girls lost a pair of close games, falling 38-36 to J.Z. George and 62-58 to Philadelphia.

Basketball: Newton Teams Sweep Lake, Split Bay Springs Matchups

In a busy week on the hardwoods, Newton was able to sweep a pair of games from rival Lake last week.

The Newton boys took a 58-38 win over the Hornets while the Lady Tigers won 39-18.

Newton then lost both games to Bay Springs before splitting a pair of contests in the Bay Springs Shootout on Saturday.
