BASEBALL: Cougars get two out three

Newton County squeezed in three games at the tail end of spring break and came away with two wins.

The Cougars beat Neshoba Central 11-8 before falling to Madison Central on Friday. The Cougars finished the week out with a 5-2 win over Sebastopol on Saturday.

TENNIS: Newton County goes 2-for-5 in challenging week

The Newton County tennis team got in five matches this past week, winning two of them.

The Cougars opened the week with a 7-0 win over Brandon and then lost to Jackson Academy 6-1.

Newton County then traveled to Oxford and took a 5-2 win over Lafayette County and lost a pair of matches to Oxford, 7-0 and 4-3.

BASEBALL: County rallies to defeat Lamar, falls to SEL

The Newton County Cougars split a pair of close games on the baseball diamond last week as they begin final preparations for division play to start.

The Cougars took a 6-3 win over Lamar School on Friday and then lost a 6-5 extra inning game to Southeast Lauderdale on Saturday.
