Evans selected for All-Star game

Newton County Academy’s Trace Evans will be headed to Jackson this week to participate in the MAIS Class 3A-2A-1A All-star football games.

Evans was the only NCA player selected to the game, which will take play on Friday at Jackson Prep starting at 3 p.m.

Union boys and girls pick up wins before break

The Union basketball teams each picked up a win last week and remained unbeaten on the season.

Union swept a pair of games from Nanih Waiya on Tuesday as the Lady Yellowjackets won 35-24 and the Yellowjackets took a 51-43 win.

Newton gets two wins in Big Easy

The Newton basketball teams made the long trip to New Orleans to play a basketball game last week and came home with two wins and a lot of memories.

The Newton girls beat Port Gibson 49-40 and the Tigers finished with a 50-36 win over the Blue Wave in a pair of games played at the Smoothie King Arena.

Tigers struggle against tough stretch

It was a tough week on the basketball courts for the Newton basketball teams.

The Newton girls got the only win of the week as they beat Scott Central 61-32. The Lady Tigers dropped their other two games, falling 72-40 to Neshoba Central and 53-26 to Morton.
